WHY KABINI
A landscape shaped
by forest and water.
Kabini is a gateway to the southern side of Nagarhole, where forest meets the river and reservoir. Nagarhole links with Bandipur and Wayanad, making it part of a connected home for large mammals. Come for the possibility of big cats, and stay curious about the herds, woodland and changing light around them.
Wildlife to look for
Elephants, gaur, sambar, spotted deer and langurs are among the animals to look for. Tigers, leopards, dholes and sloth bears also inhabit Nagarhole, but can be elusive. The wider Kabini waterside landscape adds birdlife and crocodiles; what you see depends on the route and safari format.
Through the lens
For photographers, this combination invites both close portraits and images that place wildlife within its surroundings. Look for an elephant group’s interactions, a subject framed by trees or the balance between an animal and open space. Changing light offers practice in exposure, patient composition and visual storytelling.
Your safari experience
The proposed Maharaja cottage package is jeep-focused, with repeated forest drives and image review between outings. Boat safaris are available in some other lodge packages and are not automatically part of this itinerary. In summer, activity can gather near water; wetter months bring denser foliage and greener forest scenes.
A visit with meaning.
A visit puts Nagarhole’s connected habitat into perspective. Observing behaviour without interrupting it can create more meaningful photographs and a stronger appreciation of the space wildlife needs. Give animals room, keep noise low and follow the guide’s directions.
No big-cat encounter or waterside scene is guaranteed. Visibility, water levels, season and the allocated route all influence the experience; the confirmed package determines your safari format.
